Guincho Beach and Cabo da Roca

(Video at bottom of page)

It was a gorgeous day and I was lucky enough to have a friend offer to give me a tour outside of Lisbon so we jumped in her car and took off!

Portugal has such beauty! First we stopped at Praia do Guincho, (Guincho Beach), which was amazing! The sights, sounds and smells of the beach and the ocean had my senses reeling in bliss! I really enjoyed watching the surfers and it brought back some great memories of my friends and I catching waves in Costa Rica, Cali, and other great spots around the globe. (Hmmmm. There might be a visit to the surf shop in my future!) A fixture for the whole time we were there was this loyal, obedient dog, guarding belongings and patiently waiting for his humans to finish their fun! He was an absolute statue!

Next stop was the western most point in continental Europe, Cabo da Roca. What a beautiful old lighthouse! Looking out over the cliffs it’s not difficult to imagine the tall ships from centuries ago using it’s light to navigate the course to the port of Lisboa! So many “anchored” memories of that day that will definitely inspire me to write a poem about our day! Keep a look out for it!

After that, we stopped in the town of Sintra and had an incredible dinner, but that’s another story!

Thank you to my friend, Anna Paula, for the most amazing tour!
